Horty Jacobs

Horty Jacobs

Fearrington Village artist Horty Jacobs is our Featured Artist for the month of September, 2013. We’re very excited to feature her this First Sunday on September 1st, 2013, not only because her photography is fascinating, but also because many of her photographs are of junked car bodies.

Meet Horty Jacobs at the Pittsboro Roadhosue between 11:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. Sunday September 1, 2013.

Car Theme at the Roadhouse

You may be familiar with the car theme we have at the Pittsboro Roadhouse, and that the first business at 39 West Street was Justice Motor Works, a car dealership and repair shop. So it’s a lot of fun to have an artist whose work fits that theme.

About Horty Jacobs

Horty Jacobs is a prize-winning artist; her most recent prize was Best Color Photograph in The Arts Center, Carrboro, North Carolina.

In many of her photographs, Horty Jacobs has captured arresting abstract images of color, texture and composition that she found in abandoned objects–trains, automobiles and buildings. She sees beauty in the faded, cracked, rusted surfaces transformed by the relentless power of time and the elements. She calls these photographs, “Beauty at the End of the Line.”

Her large portfolio of work also includes a broad array of images, including people, animals, landscapes, flowers, rodeos, to name a few.

Through the years and several moves, her photography has been displayed in many galleries and juried shows, including:

  • The Arts Center, Carboro, N.C.,
  • Galloway Ridge Rotating Art Show, Pittsboro, N.C.,
  • The Delaware Valley Arts Alliance Gallery, Narrowsburgh, N. Y.;
  • the Port O’Call Gallery, Warwick, N. Y.;
  • the Gallant Gallery, Salem, Mass.;
  • the Essex Fine Art Gallery and the Colonnade Gallery, both in Montclair, N. J.
  • the Peters Valley Annual Arts & Craft Fair, Sussex, N. J.

Ten of Jacobs’ photographs were selected to decorate the set in the HBO movie “Brooklyn, U.S.A.” Horty’s work was on permanent display in the ARTery Fine Arts & Craft Gallery, in Milford, PA where she was one of the gallery’s founding artists, and its curator for five years.
