Phoenix Theatre Company in North Carolina

MurderMysteryJan 0009NC’s Phoenix Theatre Company launched in quaint, historic and exciting Pittsboro, the town that is now the western corner of a real big Triangle – Raleigh Durham Chapel Hill Pittsboro.

Run by professional actress Jessica Nunn, who says, “This isn’t my first rodeo!” the Company has gotten off to a great start at the Pittsboro Roadhouse with dinner theater events.

The December Christmas Carol Dinner Show sold out over four nights.

In January, the one time only Murder Mystery WDED: Murder at Eleven, also sold out and delighted the audience even more than the Christmas Carol Show. Having something to solve. Interacting with the actors. Watching all their movements all around the room was exciting. And their humor, they were funny!

The next show is March 3rd – another Murder Mystery.

Following that this versatile Theater Company will produce a CABARET – yes, a Cabaret in Pittsboro, North Carolina.

While details are still being worked out for the Cabaret, you can be sure the Murder Mystery will sell out, so go ahead and RSVP while you’re thinking about it.  (919) 542-2432.

You’ll be glad you did!

The Familiars, Circle City & Uniontown – Bands from Pittsboro

Tracy LynnThe Familiars, Circle City and Uniontown will be performing in sequence on Saturday January 3rd 2015.

It is a night of “Homespun Swooning, Rock Ballads, and Swamp Anthems Galore” !!!

Tracy Lynn will be celebrating her recent graduation from UNC-CH and we are expecting a crowd.

All bands are homegrown from right here in Pittsboro and write all of their own material with the exception of a few cover tunes.

The Familiars with Elizabeth Haddix and Eddie Holm

The Familiars start out at 7pm in the Lounge for some laid back original tunes that feature songwriters Elizabeth Haddix and Eddie Holm. Elizabeth is formerly of The Bad Mothers, a Pittsboro favorite. Eddie currently plays with Uniontown, who takes the stage at 9pm. This duo pumps out a unique blend of AppaDeltaJazzBursts with wandering melodies about social justice and of course, life.

Circle City with Tracy Lynn, Fred Royal, Shannon Blackwell and Dave Smith

At 8pm, Circle City showcases songwriters Tracy Lynn on vocals and guitar, Fred Royal on drums and vocals, Shannon Blackwell on bass, and Dave Smith on guitar and vocals. The fresh and new band configuration elevates the solid songwriting and clever hooks with tasteful dynamics that aren’t too loud and definitely not wimpy. Lynn previously fronted Pittsboro darlings The Bad Mothers with life partner, Royal, who bangs it out with Uniontown. Blackwell has a laundry list of Chapel Hill based bands including HWYL, Tim Stambaugh, Tony Sullivan and His Burning Sinsations and others. Pittsboro native, Dave Smith, is regarded as one of the area’s finest guitarists by his peers and rotates between the gypsy jazz brilliance of the Onyx Club Boys and numerous side projects.

Uniontown

Uniontown has been writing and performing original swamp anthems since 2010. Chris Long’s true grit storytelling, Ed Holm and Fred Royal’s driving rhythms and great harmonies put Uniontown’s soiled blue collar sound a cut above your average working band sound. Show starts at 9pm.

Hand Smocked Children’s Dresses from Pittsboro

It is almost unheard of in this day to find hand-smocked children’s dresses. Right here in Pittsboro, North Carolina we have an expert at making smocked children’s dresses by hand. Madeline Stewart has been making children’s dresses for over three decades. We asked her to show us how she makes these classic children’s clothes. Madeline showed us. We were dumbstruck with how much was involved. Madeline said that it wasn’t hard, just follow one step after another. We took some videos to show the process, see how easy you think it is.

And then come by our store and take a look at these beautiful hand-made dresses – for under $40. These are classic dresses, made by hand. Madeline donates what she makes on the dresses to a couple who are missionaries in the US, to thank them for their good work.
