The Sidemen

The-Sidemen Musicians in NC x95xcl

The Sidemen are playing at the Pittsboro Roadhouse and we know you want to know who they are and what they do.  The Sidemen  play a bit of everything, including The Band, Van Morrison, Delbert McClinton, Taj Mahal, rock, reggae, country and swing. They are all local folk from Raleigh, Chapel Hill and exotic Pittsboro.

Find out more about each member.

Fred Westbrook, Keyboards & Vocalist

Fred Westbrook is a retired teacher and principal, who has been a musician all of his life, and has been performing professionally since he was 18 – which was a long, long time ago. Fred has been part of ensembles as diverse as the Susquehanna University (www.susqu.edu) band and choir during a concert tour of Europe and as a vocalist and the keyboard player for Big Rick & the Bombers as they competed in the International Blues Competition in Memphis, twice. He’s had the privilege of appearing on the stage of B.B. King’s on Beale Street three times, and has played the Bull Durham Blues Festival in Durham, NC twice. He was also part of a band opening for Herbie Mann at the Pleasure Island Blues and Seafood Festival. And now, he’s delighted to be a part of The Sidemen as keyboard player and vocalist.

Bill Bryan, Guitarist

Bill Bryan is a long-time area guitarist who coaxes tasty tuneage out of electric and acoustic guitars, Bill plays an eclectic combinations of down-home Americana to tear-stained blues with wayward danger-ridden detours in between. With a nod to the Dead, Commander Cody, The Allmans, Little Feat and the Kings, (BB, Albert & Freddie), Bill pays homage to his many influences in his playing. More recent projects include Good Juju with fellow bandmates Ed Mezynski and Rob Lindberg and the BNG Telecaster Master shows.

Rob Lindberg, Bass Player, Songwriter

Rob Lindberg is a bassist and novice songwriter who plays electric, fretless electric and acoustic (upright) bass. Rob has played in wide variety of settings ranging from hotel lounges with jazz trios, ballrooms with big bands, pit bands for “way-off Broadway” shows, recording studios, local blues and rock & roll bars, and chicken-wire covered country stages. In addition to the neighborhood garages of his youth, his musical training includes a degree in Jazz Performance from Bellarmine College, participation in Jamey Aebersold’s Jazz clinics, and studying with Rufus Reid, a preeminent jazz bassist. His scattered range of bass and songwriting influences reflects his strong ADD tendencies and includes fusion (Weather Report, Pat Metheny, Jaco Pastorius), Ray Brown, Scott LaFaro, Tony Levin, finger-funk (James Jamerson, Rocco Prestia), Americana (Band, Dave Matthews, Paul Simon) and ProgRock (Genesis), with a dose of melodic PowerPop (Raspberries, Badfinger, Beatles, Brian Wilson) thrown in as a guilty pleasure.

Ed Mezynski, Drummer

Ed Mezynski has had the pleasure of drumming for Will McFarlane, Cool John Ferguson and John D Holman. Influenced by everything from bluegrass to jazz, he’s been blessed to have played in The Lacey Band, Joe Bell and the Stinging Blades, Valentino and the Piedmont Sheiks (with a trip to Memphis for the IBC), Big Rick and the Bombers, Good Juju, The Tornado Blues Band and a host of great local blues jam host bands.

The Swang Brothers

It’s always a good time when The Swang Brothers hit the stage. Hailing from Carrboro, North Carolina, USA, they are a happening band.

The Swang Brothers performed at the Pittsboro Roadhouse on Friday May 8, 2015

The Swang Brothers play American music from the 50s and 60s, combining a heady mix of traditional country, rockabilly, pop, and blues. The three-piece outfit of thumping upright bass, driving acoustic guitar and twanging electric guitar covers a diverse array of artists including Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash, Carl Perkins, Conway Twitty, George Jones, Johnny Horton, Englebert Humperdinck, Gene Vincent, Neil Diamond , Merle Haggard, Chet Atkins, and many others while mixing in some choice original tunes to round it all out. The band can turn on a dime, playing an all-out rockabilly rave-up one moment, then downshifting into a country ballad the next, followed by a burning instrumental number.
