Raising Funds to Cure Crohn’s & Colitis

Take Steps for Crohn's

Hello to all,

Many of you we have seen in recent months and for others it has been a while. I hope this message finds you well and in good spirits.

Once again, on Saturday April 30, our Team MikAddy will be participating in the Triangle Take Steps for Crohn’s & Colitis Walk at Lake Crabtree County Park in Morrisville, NC. CCFA Walks are the nation’s largest events dedicated to finding cures for digestive diseases. Our fundraising goal is $750 for this worthy cause and I need your help to reach this goal!

The Crohn’s & Colitis Foundation of America is the leading non-profit organization dedicated to finding cures for painful and debilitating IBD (Inflammatory Bowel Disease). They have invested more than $200 million in research and they also fund disease-specific education, support, and treatment information. For the 1.4 million Americans who suffer from the debilitating effects of IBD (our daughter, Adelena is one of them) nothing is more important than finding better, more effective treatments, and ultimately, cures.

Take Steps is the foundation’s premier walking event, raising needed funds for their mission of finding cures and improving the quality of life for patients. We hope you will consider supporting our efforts by making a tax-deductible contribution to the Crohn’s & Colitis Foundation. You can donate online or mail your gift to 78 Lauren Rose Lane, Pittsboro, NC 27312. If you feel so led, please inquire if your company has a matching gift program. If so, simply complete the required form and mail it along with your donation to the above address. This is a great way to double your support! With your help, we will fund important research, patient education and support for millions of Americans.

Again, to donate online, follow this link: http://online.ccfa.org/site/TR/TakeSteps/Chapter-Carolinas?team_id=190769&pg=team&fr_id=6064

Click on “Donate” found in the upper right corner. From that menu, select the 3rd choice, which is “Donate.”

If you would like to register as a walker you will see that choice also under the “Donate” button.

“Thank you” are words we use to express appreciation. That expression does not really convey enough, but we hope you know our gratitude is sincerely and deeply felt.

Thank you,
Maria, Greg and Adelena

Update from Guardians of Angels

Guardians of Angels Tee Shirt

The new Guardians of Angels Tee Shirts look great! This year, we are going to raise our annual expense plan undefined 10K in one evening. That’s 100 Tee Shirts for a donation of $100 or more – Sunday evening only! There will also be opportunity to join Team GOA and make sure that the Adoption Center breaks ground soon.
In a recent questionnaire, candidates Karen Howard, Jim Crawford and Diana Hales all responded enthusiastically to building the Adoption Center and strengthening animal protection laws in the County. Candidates and current commissioners Walter Petty, Pam Steward and Brian Bock did not submit responses to the GOA Questionnaire. Commissioner Bock did state in an e-mail to GOA that: “I support the proposal of the new adoption center.  I spoke with the health director this week about it. I would expect that our next CIP will include it”.
Before you vote, make sure your candidate commits to building the Adoption Center and approves the 2015 Capital Investment Plan to get it started! Early voting has begun in Chatham County and you can vote for all commissioner candidates, and during early voting, you can vote at any polling station, no matter where you live. County Commissioners in Chatham are all voted for as at large representatives, which means that no matter where you live, you can vote for all the candidates.

Chatham County Animal Adoption Center

The County now has an Adoption Center design and the land on the ten acre campus of the current animal shelter for an Adoption Center deigned by Bacon Group Architects. It is time to include it and vote for the funding in the 2015 Capital Investment Plan (CIP).  While Health Department Director Layton Long called on Thursday to say he cannot make it Sunday evening, GOA will have some copies of the Bacon Group Design. Lead designer Rick Bacon recommends that building the Adoption Center take priority over renovating the current shelter.
As you can see, there is a lot happening and a lot to celebrate after 10 years of hard work, so don’t miss the celebration this Sunday night.
Thanks for being the voice of the voiceless animals that we all love!
