Tommy Edwards and Carolina Lightnin’
Bluegrass, folk and traditional musicians, Tommy Edwards, Alice Rincone, and Rick Lafleur, three of North Carolina’s finest traditional performers, joined together to form Carolina Lightnin’.
Alice Zincone, Rick Lafleur and Tommy Edwards have performed together frequently for several years under several names, including Tommy Edwards and Friends as well as Carolina Lightnin’. With the July 2011 release of Tommy Edwards’ North Carolina: History, Mystery, Lore and More, they settled on the name Carolina Lightnin’ to emphasize their strong connection to North Carolina and the state’s rich heritage of traditional string music.
Carolina Lightnin’ performs a vast repertoire of traditional bluegrass tunes and original songs from all three of its members as well as several country, folk and rock songs that have been re-imagined as bluegrass numbers. With a trio of vocalists, Carolina Lightnin’ serves up a variety of vocal combinations; and the amount of music and energy they can create with just three acoustic instruments borders on the amazing.
Tommy Edwards has twice been named World Champion Bluegrass Guitarist. He was the lead guitarist and singer for The Bluegrass Experience, his band prior to Carolina Lightnin’. Quail Ridge Books in Raleigh has four of Tommy Edwards’ CDs.
Tommy is also the music manager for the Pittsboro Roadhouse, selecting and booking all their gigs.
